Another common ancestor is the Persian game as nas. It is not clear whether this is a direct descendant of the game of poker, or if it came before it. Either way, it was likely taught to the French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. Today, it is played in its most popular form, a variant of stud. This version of the game requires players to make a five-card hand with the best card in each hand.
When a player makes a bet, he or she is dealt a hand of a certain rank, and if the other players are able to match the bet, then a showdown occurs. At the showdown, the player with the highest hand claims the pot, but more than one player is still in the mix.
The dealer button is typically a white plastic disk, and the dealer is the person who handles the cards for each player.
